ARH : Advanced Robotic Hand System
ARH is an experimental robotic arm system which will be required for the future precise operation on orbit such as orbital manufacturing plant.
USEF started development of ARH in 1992 under the contract from Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI; presently METI).
The system was launched onboard Engineering Test Satellite-VII(ETS-VII) in November, 1997.
Under the orbital operation thru 1998 and 1999, various experiments have been remotely conducted via satellite communications link, such as connector mate and demate experiment, nut and screw manipulation experiment and flexible membrane deployment test.
All tests have been conducted successfully and the robotic arm operation effectiveness has been proved to the millimeter order accuracy.
